JMI'S Academic Program. . .
Offers a day program serving students, grades 6 –12/ages 14
– 18 years. JMI’s educational program centers on an instructional
curriculum that includes core academic classes in English, Mathematics,
Social Studies, and Science. Elective courses offered include
P.E./Health. Extracurricular activities include SCUBA, Safe
Boat Handling, Seamanship, and Basketball. On “Vocational Friday”,
students spend their afternoons actively engaged in various
learning activities, including video production, photography,
culinary arts, desktop publishing, and a variety of service
learning projects.
Students, on average, arrive at JMI 2 grade levels behind in
their studies. Upon enrollment, students are administered tests
to gauge reading, writing, mathematics, factual knowledge, and
basic skills. Entrance assessment results are used in the development
of each student’s academic improvement plan. Through this plan,
students strive to achieve both short-term and long-term goals
in all areas of academics.
Students show marked improvement in their educational abilities
and achievements once the JMI programs have been successfully
completed. |
